Domo as Halloween Mascot for Target

The AnimeNewsNetwork reports: "The Target chain of American retail stores has hired NHK Japan's Domo character as its mascot for its Halloween costume campaign, and the chain's official website is hosting an exclusive stop-motion animated short and a "making-of" video (select the "Domo Show" link on the top menu).

In addition, Target is offering a dozen Domo character goods, including milk chocolate lollipops, Halloween plush dolls, mini figures sets, tackle box with candy, plush tote with candy, chocolate dextrose game, gummy teeth candy, assorted marshmallow candy, Countdown to Halloween gummy candy, candy skewers, fabric bag with candy, candy necklaces and bracelets, and a Domo-shaped gift card with interchangeable "costumes." (Ironically, there are no Domo costumes for humans at Target.) The website has also posted Halloween-themed paper cutouts for Domo and his friends as well as a paper cutout theater in PDF format."

The digital artist Spencer Brinkerhoff III made a Domo/Star Wars-Mashup: "My friend Jess and I were talking about Domo. She had just bought Domo as Dracula and suggested that he be turned into Chewbacca. I thought it was a great idea! The funny thing is that in Japanese, Domo means 'thanks' and Baka means 'fool' or 'idiot'. I feel like it?s similar to saying, 'thanks jerk!'

In our referrers we've found some cool forum thread: VooDoo from Frankfurt airbrushed his Honda's valve cover in the Domo-way - brown with beady black eyes and an open mouth revealing pointy teeth. And guys, this valve cover rocks! Want one for my Mazda.

Great, really great news! The Animation Magazine reports that Nickelodeon has acquired Domo-Kun for broadcast on its international channels. It says that Nickelodeon will premiere the 26 episodes (yeah, 26! And I guess that will be 26 brand new episodes!) on its networks in Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand in 2007. That's fucking awesome! Nick-Nick-Nick- Nick-Nick-Nickelodeon!
